Overview
DSA worked alongside HSSP and Goodrich as Project Managers on the masterplan for this fascinating 20-hectare site in Leicestershire. The outline planning application relates to the redevelopment of the Waltham Institute of Petcare Science, Melton Mowbray. The masterplan is for the demolition of existing buildings, and the erection of
replacement animal housing and welfare facilities, research buildings, and training facilities.
The masterplan will help Waltham deliver its plan by creating a comprehensive regeneration roadmap for the site that addresses the limitations of existing facilities and infrastructure, creating new facilities and capabilities to better facilitate delivery of the site’s science plan. The plan will aim to address inherent safety risks with current facilities and site configuration. It will also be key in allowing site to progressively reduce its carbon footprint and support its role in Mars Incorporated’s commitment to deliver net zero by 2050.
The first phase will deliver a new kitten breeding facility, an internal training and centre and replacement dog housing for 120 dogs, along with the required supporting infrastructure and demolitions over a 3–5-year timeline.
