Our People
April Atkinson
Landscape Architect

I joined DSA in 2021 for a ‘year out’ from my MA in Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield and returned after graduating in 2023. Before ‘discovering’ Landscape Architecture, I completed an MA(Hons) in Art History at the University of St Andrews.
My experience covers a range of landscape planning and design projects, including healthcare, housing and schools. I have a particular interest in ‘Paragraph houses’, which demand an ‘outstanding’ design process. I’ve also developed a fairly comprehensive knowledge of
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), which now applies to almost everything we do.
I have worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Landscape Department at the University of Sheffield, assisting in the delivery and assessment of first- and fifth-year landscape modules. At DSA, I oversee our undergraduate student research placements and share the practice belief in the importance of research-led design.
